We have been using lime plaster and lime paint straight from nature for over two decades. More than 20 years of experience ensures that the premium products of the Kalkkind brand are manufactured in the highest quality. Today, as it was a thousand years ago, it is still traditionally handcrafted. Production takes place responsibly and regionally in Germany. KalkKind can proudly say Made in Germany.
The name KalkKind is no coincidence, translated it means “children of the lime.” 25 years-ago, because out of personal concern for our children’s well-being we were dealing with the effects of pollutants in the air. We discovered that lime could gives us the security after discovering and it as a versatile building material. Lime has a pollutant-reducing effect and helps to ensure a better air quality.
The active influence on the creation of a healthy indoor climate through lime surfaces is an important contribution to the beneficial development of our children and of course the whole family.
Maybe you still know us from wellwall and the wellwall products . We have been with the wellwall natural lime system in the market. We developed and manufactured the lime products and trained craftsmen in their use.
In 2020 wellwall and KalkKind merged to provide maximum lime expertise. Learn more about the story here.
The air we breathe is our lifeline. We can survive for a few weeks without food. Our body can only get by for a few days without water. But without air, our body stops functioning after just minutes!
On average, we consume around 4 kg of food per day through eating and drinking. However, our body breathes in approx. 12,000 liters or 15 kg of air per day. So shouldn’t we pay just as much attention to the quality of the air we breathe as we do to our diet and the quality of our drinking water? It makes sense to ensure good indoor air quality.
KalkKind products are free from harmful substances and reduce up to 90% of harmful substances, germs and bacteria from the room’s air. KalkKind’s lime is a purely mineral product, there are no synthetic ingredients! KalkKind products are therefore completely emission-free. It’s nature offering her best!
We are specialists in lime plaster and manufacture pure lime products from limestone. This natural lime can do a lot: reducing pollutants, bacteria and germs from the room’s air, reducing odors, preventing the formation of mold.
Lime, and especially limestone, has been used as a natural building material for thousands of years. Our KalkKind specialist are experts when it comes to limestone. In order to become a KalkKind specialist, applicants are required to obtain the knowledge and craftsmanship in order to service walls with KalkKind’s products.
Instead of relying on petrochemical additives (titanium dioxide, binders, plastics, etc.) in the slaked lime like conventional manufacturers on the market, KalkKind relies on the power of nature and professional expertise!
Petrochemical additives can be found in most building materials these days. These building materials from mass production should be processable by everyone and special qualifications should not be necessary. These harmful substances in the products replace technical knowledge and manual know-how.
Paradox?! For centuries ago, skilled craftsmen had already mastered the use of natural building materials such as lime in unparalleled perfection. Working with natural lime plaster was part of the daily craft. With the advent of petrochemicals in the building materials sector, knowledge and craft techniques related to natural building materials were displaced in just a few decades. Dealing with natural building materials is no longer part of the general knowledge of the building trade.
The hygienic effect, durability and appearance of a suitably coated lime plaster is unsurpassed to this day.
KalkKind’s pure lime has a number of positive effects:

The surfaces are usually made in thin layers because of the pollutant-reducing effect and the effect of moisture absorption and delivery. If you are interested in limestone surfaces, you should equip all available areas with it if possible. The ceilings should also be included, especially in damp rooms and bedrooms. Only having individual wall surfaces worked on is better than nothing at all, but you only experience the unique effect when the lime is used as a whole room.
With around 40 KalkKind color pigments in our color collection. Any number of color nuances can be mixed depending on the quantity used. Since the pigments can all be mixed with one another, there are hardly any limits to the color scheme. Therefore, the KalkKind specialist companies can provide you with around 150 standard colors to choose from.
We only use limestone from German deposits.
Germany has rich limestone deposits of the highest quality.
The marble sands and marble flour that we use to manufacture the lime products also come from here.
We quench our lime in our own factory in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau and also manufacture the lime surface materials there.
By using lime and marble deposits in Germany, Kalkkind is Made in Germany.
KalkKind lime plaster is one of the most efficient surfaces for damp rooms. They are unmatched! Due to lime’s Moisture absorption and in the re-drying. Our limestone plaster was developed for mold remediation and keeps walls and ceilings permanently dry. Mirrors, windows and tiles fog up, if at all only for a short time – no more foggy bath room mirrors.
The lime surfaces, even if they are saponified, should not be used in the direct shower area. In the shower area, you need waterproof, hard surfaces that are also resistant to lime cleaning agents. Therefore, tiles, slabs or cementitious Seamless materials can be used. If then the remaining wall surfaces and ceilings with KalkKind Sump lime materials have been designed, the feel-good factor is certain.
KalkKind offers a complete natural lime system. Therefore, the suitable material structure can be ensured for all wall structures and different conditions on site. In massive new buildings or after a complete gutting of an old building, a natural lime base plaster is usually applied in a layer thickness of about 15 mm. The lime plasters for room design are applied and structured to a thickness of approx. 2 to 3 mm. In the case of the renovation of old buildings with intact old plastered surfaces or with planked wall surfaces, however, thin layers are used. The substrates are covered over the entire surface with the lime adhesive bridge and a fabric insert in a layer thickness of approx. 3 – 4 mm. As already described above, the lime plasters are then applied and designed with a thickness of approx. 2 to 3 mm.
The lime surfaces can be cleaned with a lint-free cloth or a sponge and clean water. When cleaning with a cloth or sponge, the surface should be “dabbed” clean instead of “rubbed”. In the case of surfaces that have to be washed regularly, such as the wall surfaces on kitchen countertops, the lime surfaces should be saponified to provide greater protection against the absorption of liquids.
Lime surfaces that are saponified to protect against the absorption of liquids are still permeable to water vapor. This is because the soap reacts with the lime and becomes the lime soap. For this purpose, lime soap crystals form on the surface. The individual lime soap crystals are not visible to the human eye. The individual water molecules in the room air can diffuse in and out of the surfaces through the gaps between the lime soap crystals. In liquid water, many water molecules are always connected to one another (e.g. in the form of drops) these are then too large and cannot get through between the distances between the individual lime soap crystals. Water runs off. Thus, the diffusibility is guaranteed even with saponified surfaces.
If a renovation is due, there are a number of options. The surfaces can be painted with a milk of lime, a lime base diluted with water or with the natural lime paint. Another variant would be a coat of natural lime brush plaster. But they can also be reworked with a new layer of the lime plaster. It is not necessary to remove the old limestone surfaces.
Clay is an excellent building material. In the life cycle assessment, it is even ahead of lime because it does not have to be burned. In the field of basic plasters clay and natural lime are on par.
Meanwhile when it comes to surfaces, lime plasters have the advantage. In contrast to clay surfaces, lime surfaces are not at risk of dissolving when it comes to water. Lime surfaces have good strength, even though they are purely mineral.
Clay surfaces have a pH value that is in the neutral range. In contrast, lime surfaces have a pH value in highly alkaline Area and thus represent better mold protection. They are disinfecting and antiseptic.
There are a number of differences from other standard ones on the market when it comes to lime plasters. Here are just a few of them: KalkKind lime plasters are completely mineral. We don’t even use cellulose. Our voluntary product transparency is exemplary. Everything down to the last crumb is revealed. No hidden additives and chemicals. High degree of whiteness without the use of titanium dioxide. The proportion of lime in the products is significantly higher than in the standard lime products. Officially, anything that has more than 4% lime content can be referred to as “lime plaster,” but at KalkKind we make sure at least 40% of the product contains lime.
